Havishka Perera Shatters Records at 39th Rowing Nationals in Diyawannawa

Havishka Perera, a rising star from the British School in Colombo, has left an indelible mark on the rowing world with her stellar performance at the 39th Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Rowing Nationals 2024 held at the Diyawannawa Rowing Center in Battaramulla.

Displaying remarkable skill and determination, the 15-year-old prodigy rewrote the record books in the School Girl Scull event, clocking an unprecedented time of 8 minutes and 39 seconds. Her remarkable achievement not only secured her victory in the event but also earned her the coveted title of Best Junior Girl rower, representing the Diyawannawa Rowing Academy.

Not content with just one triumph, Perera continued her dominance by clinching the gold medal in the Under-18 Girls single Scull event. With an impressive timing of 8 minutes and 46 seconds, she cemented her status as the premier Junior single scull rower at a tender age of 15.

Perera’s stellar performance is a testament to her unwavering dedication and relentless pursuit of excellence in the sport. Over the past two years, she has exhibited remarkable growth and consistency, amassing numerous National Medals and representing Sri Lanka on the international stage at the Asian Junior Rowing Championship in Thailand last year.

Currently honing her skills for the Sri Lanka Junior pool, Perera’s meteoric rise in the world of rowing serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes nationwide.
